People with a story to tell

This three part series is an intense journey from the birth of Soweto in the early part of this century, to the verge of the country’s democratic elections in 1994. It is thought provoking and gripping. The history of Soweto is told through the voices of ordinary residents who share their stories. It is both entertaining and educational, containing extraordinary and unique archival footage as well as documentary photographs of Soweto over several decades.

It was made in collaboration with Angus Gibson and the University of the Witwatersrand’s History Workshop. It was aired in 1996 on SABC and internationally on Channel 4 in Britain and SBS in Australia.
